Hostel · Saldes
In the village of Saldes, in the heart of Berguedà, breathing the magic of a majestic and unique natural environment, was the family hostel Cal Manuel. For three generations, that corner had become a gathering place for local people and a warm, family-friendly retreat for visitors. A space that was sometimes deep, sometimes a restaurant, which many used as a video club, and in the background it was the civic center of a town in Saldes that, following the closure of the mines in 1989, was losing activity, energy and inhabitants . The heart of Cal Manuel had always beat in the rhythm of that of Saldes and, only 10 years after the beginning of this decline, it decided to stop.
Many things have changed in Saldes since 2000, when Cal Manuel closed its doors, but the village is still the same magical and mystical place, and the immense figure of the gallows continues to draw a wonderful landscape. That is why, 15 years later, a group of friends who are very close to the village decided to revive this leisure space that kept the Saldes flame alive.
If before the engine of Cal Manuel was the exploitation of the natural resources that hid the mountains of Saldes, now the life of the new hostel revolves around much more spiritual resources. Cal Manel is a place where its guests are dedicated to extract from their interior peace, calm and well-being.
The hostel has once again become a reference for the people of Saldes, as well as quality, friendly and simple accommodation for hikers and athletes. Boletaires, bicyclists, mountaineers or simply people and families looking to disconnect at the foot of Pedraforca, find in Cal Manel all kinds of services in a remodeled building following criteria of sustainability and respect for the environment.
In Cal Manel, the cyclist has a car park for cleaning and repairing his bicycle, groups have a multipurpose room, children can bring their pets and parents can get to know more about natural and alternative therapies. And all in a space where its sustainable philosophy is demonstrated by its integration with the environment, the energy efficiency of its building and the consumption of local products.
